The Evolutionary Eye

In a surprising announcement at the Vatican, the Catholic Church has backed the theory of evolution against the pseudo science of Intelligent Design.

Not quite worth a Darwinian smile, this development at least merits a glint in the evolutionary eye.

Pope John Paul II originally suggested that the threory of evolution could be accepted in the early 80s. They reasoned that evolution did not eliminate God from the process it simply explained an evolution. Plus, I think there is some reticence to hate on science after the church spent centuries killing people for suggesting crazy ideas like that the earth orbited the sun.

Beltway, I agree. I am aware of the Catholic Church's position on evolution. However, it is refreshing to see that the Vatican is being consistent in condeming the teaching of Intelligent Design in the science lab.

We do not seem to have reached this level of Enlightenment thinking in many religious sects in America.

Anonymous,

Too bad. When anonymous visitors read my poetry, I usually reward them by writing a new poem. In your case, it seems, this would be a punishment instead of a reward.

But thanks for the input. I am aware of my own shortcomings.
